Description

The CER will loan Tablet PCs to faculty members for instructional use. The loans will run for single academic semesters. The program aim is to explore standard uses of tablets such as enhanced classroom presentations and paper grading with digital ink, as well as to provide a platform for faculty instructional innovation.

 Goals:
  • Expose humanities faculty members to the potential of the Tablet PC
  • Enhance instruction by supporting the integration of Tablet PCs
  • Influence future purchasing decisions by departments and faculty members
Requirements/Expectations for participants:
  • Co-author 1 page white paper describing instructional impact
  • Provide a videotaped testimonial regarding use of Tablet PC 
  • Give a brief demo at a CER sponsored-event
Policies:
  • Loans are for one academic semester only
  • At the end of the loan period CER staff will re-image the loaned equipment, removing all data.
  • Faculty members are encouraged to store their work on USB-Flash storage devices.
  • CER will provide will partner with departmental IT specialists to provide technical support.

Evaluation

Evaluation of the program will take a standard approach. Each faculty member must participate in a focus group at the end of the semester. In addition, they must have their students take a survey near the end of the semester. Finally, a CER staff member will observe up to three class sessions during the semester, taking notes and producing a short summary.
